George C. Beason


Mr. Beason retired from Datapoint Corporation as Vice President, Customer Sales and Development, in 1988. He has been a consultant in computer-related fields and start-up companies since that time under the auspices of Beason Associates. Following his departure from Datapoint Corporation, he was retained by Standard Microsystems to represent them in the ARCNET Trade Association. He was elected Chairman of the Association and later served as Executive Director.

During his term as Chairman, he was instrumental in obtaining ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accreditation for ARCNET Trade Association as a Developer of Standards for ANSI. He also led the effort to get the ANSI ARCNET 878.1 Standard approved. Later, as Executive Director, he coordinated the effort to modify and reissue the ANSI 878.1 1999 Standard.

While employed at Datapoint he managed the project to convert a discrete component version of the ARCNET interface into a VLSI chip and later negotiated an agreement with Standard Microsystems to sell it in the marketplace.

In summary, he has been associated with ARCNET and the ARCNET chip and protocol and Standard in some capacity since 1978.

Mr. Beason received a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama in 1950. He was employed at NCR (National Cash Register Company) for almost 25 years in various sales and technical management positions. He holds 6 patents from his work there. His products from NCR include the first NCR On-Line Bank Terminal and NCR's first two cash registers that utilized industry standard microprocessors and solid state memory.

His experience includes two years at DEC (Digital Equipment Corporation). His Small Systems group designed the DEC VT 100 Terminal, an industry benchmark for computer terminals.

He is currently retired and lives in Boerne, Texas in the Texas Hill Country Northwest of San Antonio with his wife, Victoria, two retired racing greyhounds and three cats!
